Why Install a Whole House Generator in Ankeny?
A whole-house generator installation in Ankeny protects homes from Iowa’s unpredictable and dangerous power outages. Severe weather strikes without warning across Polk County, leaving families without electricity for hours or even days. A January ice storm or a summer derecho, like the one that crossed the region in August 2020, knocks out power to thousands of MidAmerican Energy customers. When temperatures plummet below zero, a home loses heat at roughly one to two degrees per hour. Pipes begin freezing within hours. A standby generator eliminates this risk entirely.
How fast does a standby generator restore power?
The system monitors utility power continuously. It starts automatically within 20 to 30 seconds of an outage. This rapid response keeps furnaces, sump pumps, and refrigerators running without interruption. Families avoid frozen pipes, flooded basements, and spoiled food.

What Size Generator Does Your Ankeny Home Need?
A whole-house generator installation in Ankeny starts with precise load calculation. Rewired Iowa determines the correct system size by evaluating total electrical demand, not guesswork. An undersized unit fails during an outage. An oversized unit wastes fuel and money.
How does Rewired Iowa calculate the right generator size?
Rewired Iowa’s licensed electricians perform a detailed assessment of every Ankeny home. The evaluation covers square footage, major appliances, and specialized equipment. Medical devices, well pumps, and sump pumps receive priority in the calculation. This method ensures the installed Generac system handles the full electrical load without interruption.
What makes a whole house generator the most reliable backup option?
A whole house generator provides the most dependable complete-home backup power available. Rewired Iowa installs Generac systems that automatically power an entire residence during outages. These units connect directly to the home’s electrical panel and natural gas or propane line. The system monitors utility power continuously and starts within seconds of an outage.
The installation process follows strict code requirements. Rewired Iowa’s team ensures every whole-house generator installation in Ankeny meets all local and national electrical standards. Homeowners receive a code-compliant, stress-free installation backed by the company’s Ankeny generator installation expertise. The result is uninterrupted power that protects families, property, and peace of mind through Iowa’s harshest weather.
How Does the Installation Process Work?
A whole-house generator installation in Ankeny begins with a detailed on-site inspection. Rewired Iowa’s licensed electricians evaluate the property’s electrical load, gas supply, and ideal placement for the unit. This assessment ensures the system meets all Iowa code requirements. The company holds Electrician License EL011713EC, which guarantees every installation follows strict safety and compliance standards.
The physical installation involves mounting the generator on a prepared concrete pad. Technicians then connect the unit to the home’s natural gas or propane line and integrate it with the existing electrical panel via an automatic transfer switch. Throughout this process, the team provides clear explanations of each step. One Ankeny customer noted that the project manager was thorough in his inspection and made sure nothing was overlooked.
What happens after the generator is physically installed?
The crew tests the system under simulated outage conditions. This confirms the generator starts automatically and powers the designated circuits correctly. Any final adjustments are made before the site is cleaned and restored.

What Are the Costs and Financing Options?
Whole house generator installation in Ankeny requires a significant investment that varies by home size and site conditions. Rewired Iowa structures plans to bring reliable backup power within reach for more households.
